It’s 2016 ladies and gents, and what a time to be alive with the evolution of technology, with the mass abundance of what we now call smartphones, or basically, miniature supercomputers in our pockets.

The latest development comes from Apple, where a report from several sources discovered a patent filed by the Cupertino-based tech giant, that basically describes a new smartphone application that can pretty much remote control your car.

“This already exists,” you may shout. However, not officially and specifically in the way Apple apparently has envisioned. Sure, there are multiple connectivity apps available through various automakers, where you can remote control in-car amenities such as the HVAC, door locks, and even the windows and ignition. With Tesla even, you can enable “summon mode,” where the car can crawl to your position.

Now, Apple wants to basically develop their own application, in house, for iOS. This is most likely from Apple’s overall initiative to get more involved with the automobile industry, with intents to even make their own car.

Apple also wants the smartphone integration to control things like the ignition and enterance to a vehicle, as a sort of electronic key. Makes sense, considering that they’re trying to find ways to consolidate life’s functions into the smartphone. Apple Pay is another example, where they’re trying to put the wallet in the smartphone. Now, they want to put the key fob in the smartphone as well.

Imagine: you just being able to turn on the car with the swipe of your fingerprint on your iMobile device.

Pretty neat. Yay biometrics!
